Prosper Senat was born in Philadelphia in 1852.  In 1877 he married Clemintine I Gibbs of Philadelphia and in 1890 he built a studio called "The Barnacle"  in Cape Arundel.   Prosper Senat was the first President of the Arundel Golf Club.  His most notable artworks were watercolors and etchings of marine subjects.  He painted and exhibited in London, Paris Bermuda and Kennebunkport and won awards all over the United States for his artistry.  He also dabbled in Real Estate investment.  1897 he created a large chart of Kennebunkport Harbor and it's approaches to encourage yacht owners to sail into the harbor.  When he died in Philadelphia in 1925, many beautiful paintings were found on the walls of his Kennebunkport studio.
